Note from Debra – Dr. Feldman sent me this lovely letter that is so full of his insights and experience with my dogs that I wanted to share it in full.

My wife and I have enjoyed the companionship of German Shepherd dogs continuously since we met in 1971. My wife’s family had them throughout her childhood. We are fans of the breed and attained the status of connoisseurs when we had the good fortune to find Debra Hughes and Tannhäuser GSD’s after the loss of our much beloved German Shepherd in 1995. Enduring the loss of that friend and others previously taught us an invaluable lesson: No more back yard bred GSD’s. Trust in the integrity of the breeder and the outcome of a carefully planned and organized breeding program are paramount considerations for us. All Tannhäuser dogs are descended from respected working lines and her meticulously selected breeding stock represent the best the breed has to offer. The dogs are raised and socialized in a home atmosphere of affection and respect with every effort directed to ensuring they can realize their full potential. This is not a puppy mill. The puppies are not commodities.

Her dedication to the breed and to her dogs is such that she is careful in determining who may adopt her dogs, provides extensive information and counseling prior to purchase, insists on having any dog she releases returned to her if the new owner is unable to care for it appropriately and has each dog chipped to facilitate identification. All dogs undergo thorough veterinary screening for potential general and breed specific medical problems, minimizing uncertainty to the greatest degree possible. They are tested for drive, emotional stability and trainability in accordance with breed standards. While any dog can fall ill the lack of predictability with respect to character, personality, conformation, drive and typicity we have seen in dogs of random provenance has made us lifelong Tannhäuser fans.

Working with Deb has shown us what professionalism can bring to the process of selecting a new family member. Deb’s unassuming expertise in creating suitable breeding matches has resulted in our having gotten four spectacular dogs from her since 1995. We look forward to meeting and falling in love with our next Tannhäuser friend.
